Green Living – Start Small

Turn on the television for five minutes and you’ll hear something about the environment.  “Green” is a major force in our culture and becoming a driving force in our politics.  Millions are motivated to do something, but unsure where to start. The answer – start small. Pick one thing to change at a time. As it becomes a habit, start to incorporate another change.

Changing behaviors is one of the hardest things for humans to do. Most attempts at change fail – not for lack of will, but lack of planning. The behavior you are trying to change didn’t become a habit in a day. Why should you expect to undo that habit in a day?

Start off by picking one goal (such as regular recycling) and create a plan with small achievable steps. There will be hiccups along the way so plan for it and how you’ll regroup when it happens. Changing an established way of life can take three to six months or more. Don’t give up. In time, it gets easier and eventually becomes second nature!

Welcome to a new way of life! Your children’s children will thank you for every small step you make to leave them with a healthier planet.

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
